LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Area Veterans Council could receive a large grant from the Homes for Heroes Foundation, but they’ll need your votes to do it.
The council is one of three semi-finalists who could receive a $10,000 grant.
Thomas Current, president of the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council, said their biggest need right now is what he calls “motel money.” He said this grant would help fund their program that provides motel rooms for homeless veterans.
“That 10,000 would go a long way in helping us to keep veterans out of the cold, and in the motel room,” Current said.
Current said Lynchburg Area Veterans Council is run by volunteers and its mission is to help needy veterans in the Lynchburg area and surrounding counties. He said they’ve provided things like housing, food, clothing, furniture, counseling and other services to veterans.
“We help veterans a lot now, right here, in every imaginable way, just everything you can think of,” Current said.
